Cotton Association of India (CAI) released its November Estimates (as on 30th November 2009) of the Cotton Crop for the season 2009-10. CAI estimated the Cotton Crop for the new season at 307.00 lakh bales.  The projected Balance Sheet drawn by the CAI for the year 2009-10, estimated the total cotton supply at 386.50 lakh bales, while the domestic consumption was estimated at 245.00 lakh bales, thus leaving a surplus of 141.50 lakh bales.  The CAI estimated the cotton exports during 2009-10 season at 70.00 lakh bales.  A statement containing the State-wise estimates of Crop and Balance Sheet for the season 2009-10 is enclosed.

Inspite of late rains resulting in the late movement of the crop, the arrivals this year are higher than they were at the same point last year.  Even after accounting for increased mill consumption and exports of an estimated 70.00 lakh bales, the carry out at 71.50 lakh bales equivalent to 3.5 months consumption remains one of the highest on record.  The supply situation of cotton is very comfortable having no cause for panic.  Daily arrivals continue to be at a pace of around 2.00 lakh bales.  Quality parameters remain normal with staple length being on the better side.

Cotton prices have remained firm in view of yarn prices remaining strong.
