The Cotton Association of India (CAI) released its January Estimates (as on 31st January 2010) of the Cotton Crop for the season 2009-10. CAI estimated the Cotton Crop for the new season at 302.00 lakh bales.  The projected Balance Sheet drawn by the CAI for the year 2009-10, estimated the total cotton supply at 382.50 lakh bales, while the domestic consumption was estimated at 247.00 lakh bales, thus leaving a surplus of 135.50 lakh bales.  The CAI estimated the cotton exports during 2009-10 season at 65.00 lakh bales.  A statement containing the State-wise estimates of Crop and Balance Sheet for the season 2009-10 is given below. 

The arrivals as of 31st January 2010 constitute approximately 60% of the expected crop. The pace of exports has slackened because of falling international prices. The quality and the pace of arrivals continue to be good.
