The Cotton Association of India (CAI) released its May estimates (as on 31st May 2013) of the cotton crop for the season 2012-13. CAI has placed the cotton crop for the season 2012-13 at 352 lakh bales. The projected Balance Sheet drawn by the CAI for the year 2012-13 estimated the total cotton supply at 425.21 lakh bales while the domestic consumption is estimated at 278 lakh bales, thus leaving an available surplus of 147.21 lakh bales. The arrivals as on 31st May 2013 are placed at 339.75 lakh bales. A statement containing the State-wise estimates of Crop and Balance Sheet for the season 2012-13 and the corresponding data for the previous season 2011-12 is given below.
Looking at the reported demand for cotton seed, it is very likely that cotton is going to see once again a good acreage level in the ensuing season.
