Demand from mills and exporters pushed up cotton by Rs 200 a candy of 356 kg on Friday. Besides, lower arrival also boosted prices.  The Sankar-6 variety was traded at Rs 34,800-35,100 a candy. For ready delivery, the fibre crop quoted at Rs 3,740-3,820 a quintal in Punjab, at Rs 3,740-3,755 in Haryana and at Rs 3,740-3,750 in Rajasthan. In Maharashtra, the crop was offered at Rs 34,500-34,700 a candy.  In Gujarat, 45,000 bales of 170 kg each, while 1.75 lakh bales arrived in the rest of the country.

A Rajkot-based cotton broker said, “During this week, arrivals in Gujarat declined from 55,000 bales to 45,000 bales, as over 60 per cent of the crop of the season has come to the market. Demand from mills and exporters will keep cotton frim in the near term.” Mills and exporters bought around 14,000 bales from Gujarat yesterday. Kapas or raw cotton was traded higher by Rs 5-10 at Rs 840-870 for a maund of 20 kg here, while it was Rs 840-875 for delivery at Kadi.  (Source: The Hindu Businessline)
