Source: PRESS RELEASE

The Cotton Association of India (CAI) released its December estimates (as on 31st December 2010) of the cotton crop for the season 2010-11. CAI has placed the cotton crop for the season 2010-11 at 347.50 lakh bales.  The projected Balance Sheet drawn by the CAI for the year 2010-11 estimated the total cotton supply at 409.00 lakh bales while the domestic consumption is estimated at 266.00 lakh bales, thus leaving the available surplus of 143.00 lakh bales.  A statement containing the State-wise estimates of Crop and Balance Sheet for the season 2010-11 and the corresponding data for the previous season 2009-10 is given below.

The arrivals as on 31st December is estimated at 142.50 lakh bales as compared to 132.25 lakh bales same time last year. The quantum of daily arrivals is fast increasing day by day thereby widening the gap between the arrival figures of the last year and those of the current year. This increasing trend in arrivals clearly indicates a substantially higher cotton crop during the 2010-11 season.
