As per the statement released by the Indian Cotton Federation (ICF), the  cotton production of the country is estimated to be nearly 325 lakh bales during the 2012-13 crop year.

Gujarat toped the list at 85 lakh bales. The production in Gujarat had been estimated after considering the effects of drought conditions. Maharashtra followed with 80 lakh bales, a bale is 170 kgs. Then came Andhra Pradesh with 68 lakh bales and Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan 57 lakh bales, stated A Ramani, secretary, ICF which was formerly known as South India Cotton Association.

Ramani highlighted that the total of 325 lakh bales for the cotton year includes loose cotton as well. The crop estimation for Madhya Pradesh is at 16 lakh bales, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and other states are likely to account for 11, five, two and one lakh bales. (Source: SME News)
