Karnataka gets Rs. 526 Crore and Maharashtra, Rs. 778 Crore from National Disaster Response Fund
The High Level Committee for central assistance to States affected by natural calamity today approved assistance of Rs. 526.06 crore to Karnataka and Rs. 778.09 crore to Maharashtra. The High Level Committee met under the Chairmanship of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar. Other members of the Committee are Home Minister, Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram and Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia.
Central assistance to Karnataka
Karnataka has experienced a sequential drought phenomenon over the past 24 months impacting kharif 2011, Rabi-2011-12 and kharif 2012. Failure of monsoon rains in large parts of Karnataka during July & August, 2012 resulted in a drought of severe nature. The State Government had declared drought in 142 taluks in 26 districts in the State and submitted a memorandum seeking financial assistance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
An Inter-Ministerial Central Team led by Shri Parvesh Sharma, MD, SFAC visited the State during 21st to 25th August, 2012 for assessing drought situation during Kharif 2012 and submitted its recommendation to the Inter Ministerial Group constituted under the chairmanship of Agriculture Secretary. IMG held its meeting on 22.11.2012 and recommended assistance to the HLC held today.

Central assistance to Maharashtra
Maharashtra has experienced a sequential drought phenomenon over the past 24 months impacting kharif 2011, Rabi-2011-12 and kharif 2012. Government of Maharashtra initially declared drought in 122 taluks in 25 districts which was subsequently revised to 125 taluks in 16 districts. State Government submitted a memorandum seeking financial assistance from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).
An Inter-Ministerial Central Team led by Shri R.B. Sinha, Joint Secretary visited the State during 21st to 23rd November, 2012 for assessing drought situation during kharif 2012. and submitted its recommendation to the Inter Ministerial Group constituted under the chairmanship of Agriculture Secretary. IMG held its meeting on 21st December, 2012 and recommended assistance to the HLC held today.
